Prof. Stephen Tapscott was warmly welcomed as an invited speaker to the International Institute in Madrid on January 24th. The audience included a lively group of American and Spanish students and faculty members as well as translators and poets from the Madrid community. All were riveted by Prof. Tapscott’s engaging readings of his own work, as well as by his scholarly discussion of his translations of Neruda and Mistral. Prof. Tapscott drew his listeners into bilingual readings of those poets’ works. Although his presentation was unique for the interactive quality, his own erudition and deep love of these poets was clear. In fact, one of the audience members, a reporter for Spain’s NPR, was so taken by Prof. Tapscott’s work that she invited him to an interview—which he completed—the next day on Spanish National Radio.
