venusofmars_v03_lg copyJoin WGS for indian food and an open exchange with transgender rock and roll pioneer and artist Venus de Mars and poet Lynette Reini-Grandell in conversation on evolving attitudes towards gender and transgender experiences, influences their creative work and personal lives. Venus de Mars and Lynette Reini-Grandell are the subject of the feature-length documentary “Venus of Mars.”  Married in 1983, they began rethinking their relationship with the world and each other 5 years later when Venus revealed she was transgender.  Venus went public with her transgender status, formed the band All the Pretty Horses, and went on to write and record 10 albums as well as garner awards as a performance artist and filmmaker.  Lynette completed her PhD, secured a tenured teaching position, and developed her career as a writer, recently publishing Approaching the Gate: Poems.  They are still married.
