Prof. David Thorburn to give lecture “Story Machine: 50s Television and the Transformation of American Culture” at the Museum of Fine Arts on March, 31, 2015 from 10:30 am -12:00 pm. “Even in its earliest ghostly and unstable images, TV both reflected and shaped the 1950s culture in which it emerged.  The infant medium was a mighty new engine of American advertising, the enabling technology of the suburbs and our consumer culture.  And it was an upstart story system, reviled and mocked even as it reached the largest audiences in human history and displaced the movies as America’s central medium for story-telling.” March 31, 2015 10:30 am – 12:00 pm Harry and Mildred Remis Auditorium (Auditorium 161) Tickets Required
