This session introduces the GHI Pillar Medicine & the Healing Arts, and its projects. 10th GHI Forum Title: Rethinking healing—from ancient wisdom to modern medicine Date: May 8, 2026, 10:00–11:30 AM EST Where: Online (Zoom Registration Link: LINK) Speakers: Ronit Yoeli-Tlalim, Michael Stanley-Baker, Joaquín Terrones 【Abstract】 What can history teach us about the big challenges faced by medicine in the world today? Our pillar is tapping into historically rooted medical knowledge as resources for new directions for enhancing both medical practice and public understanding of health and well-being. We examine ways by which diverse societies have historically defined and practiced health, thus gaining valuable insights into mind-body connections, preventive care, personalised medicine and healthier links with the environment. By considering how traditional medicines are transformed, or forgotten in modern health care systems, we seek better avenues for modern nation-states to take advantage of their medical heritage.This work advocates for a broader, multi-epistemological therapeutic perspective that incorporates insights from traditional medical practices.
